Simply, to stimulate debate, bring fresh ideas and perspective on the role and contribution of HR.
My aim is not to write what people want to hear- the exact opposite really.
Is HR doomed? Will the rate of change and technological advancement and the advent of robotics render HR obsolete or will HR just be different with very different priorities? Will HR be dumbed down, outsourced and consigned to only those business processes that are too expensive or difficult to replace with technology?
And do HR practitioners want to practice HR in the new business landscape? Can they? Do HR professionals have the required skill set and competence to deliver HR in the 21st century? Is HR fit for purpose?
And what about employee expectations. Don’t they matter in all this? Will there be a disconnect between what HR provides and what employees expect?
There are many areas of business where HR is deemed to be successful. However, there are also many areas where HR’s contribution is suspect and just failing spectacularly and I believe one reason is the narrow way in which HR’s role is defined and confined.
I want to open up HR to the world and examine its contribution (or lack of) to society.
